Artificial Grass Lawns in Portland, OR

Oregon Artificial Turf installs synthetic grass lawns for homeowners throughout Portland, Beaverton, Lake Oswego, and the surrounding metro. A real lawn in this region is a year-round chore with a short payoff: it's soggy and moss-ridden from October through May, it needs constant water and mowing through the summer, and the shaded parts under our Douglas firs and big-leaf maples never fill in properly no matter what you do. A well-built turf lawn removes all of that and looks the same in February as it does in July.

What separates a turf lawn that lasts twenty years from one that ripples, sinks, and puddles is entirely underneath it. We strip and haul away the existing sod, excavate to depth, and build a compacted base of open-graded crushed rock; the aggregate is chosen so water moves through it rather than perching on top, which matters enormously on Portland's clay soils. The turf itself is laid with the blade grain running in a consistent direction, seamed with tape and adhesive rather than exposed staples, secured on a tight perimeter nail pattern, and finished with a brushed-in silica infill that keeps the blades standing upright.

We install commercial-grade turf manufactured in Georgia rather than the imported product a lot of the market runs on, and we install a range of face weights and pile heights within that. The right one depends on how you'll use the space: a front lawn that mostly gets looked at can take a taller, softer, more luxurious pile, while a back yard that hosts kids, dogs, and furniture needs a denser, shorter, more resilient product that recovers from traffic. We bring physical samples to every consultation, because turf photographs very differently from how it looks and feels in your hand and in your own light.

More About Our Artificial Grass Lawns Work

The honest case for turf in Portland isn't that grass can't grow here. It's that grass grows unevenly here. Our wet season produces moss, our dry season produces brown patches, and the mature tree canopy that makes Portland neighborhoods beautiful produces shade that turfgrass simply will not thrive in. Homeowners end up spending money and weekends every year fighting the same three battles. A synthetic lawn ends that cycle permanently, and it does it while eliminating summer irrigation entirely.

We install artificial grass lawns for homes across Portland, Beaverton, Tigard, Lake Oswego, West Linn, and the surrounding metro. Whether you're replacing a muddy back yard, a shaded side yard that never filled in, or a front lawn you're tired of watering, Oregon Artificial Turf brings careful base work and honest product guidance to every install. FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does artificial grass cost in Portland?
A standard synthetic lawn in the Portland metro runs about $17 to $21 per square foot fully installed. Pet turf, putting greens, and playground surfacing price differently, since the turf and infill specifications change. Within any one of those, the spread comes down to how much excavation and haul-away the site needs, drainage work, and access. A flat, open back yard with easy gate access is at the low end; a sloped lot with poor drainage and wheelbarrow-only access is at the high end. We give you a firm written number after seeing the site.
Does artificial turf get hot in the summer?
It runs warmer than natural grass in direct sun, though Portland's climate makes this far less of an issue than it is in Phoenix or Sacramento. On our hottest handful of August afternoons a full-sun turf lawn can feel hot underfoot. Lighter-colored turf, a cooling-technology infill, and a quick rinse with a hose all bring it down significantly, and shaded or partly shaded yards (which describes most of Portland) rarely notice it at all.
Is artificial grass safe for kids and pets?
Yes. The turf we install is lead-free and non-toxic, and we can specify antimicrobial backings and zeolite infill for households with dogs. There's no fertilizer, no herbicide, and no pesticide involved in maintaining it, which is a meaningful advantage over a chemically maintained natural lawn if you have small children crawling around on it.
How do I clean and maintain a turf lawn?
Rinse it occasionally, blow or rake leaves off in the fall so organic debris doesn't accumulate and host moss, and cross-brush high-traffic paths once or twice a year to stand the blades back up. That's genuinely it. No mowing, no watering, no fertilizing, no aerating, no moss killer, no reseeding bare patches every spring.
Can turf be installed on a slope or an uneven yard?
Yes, and slopes are common on the west side and in the West Hills. We regrade during excavation to get a consistent, properly draining surface, and on steeper pitches we increase nail density and can add stabilization to keep the turf from creeping downhill over time. Uneven yards actually finish better than people expect, because the base work levels everything out.
