Choosing a Turf

Which Specification Fits Your Yard?

Face weight and pile height are the two numbers that decide how a lawn looks and how it holds up. Here's the range we install within for each use, and what actually matters in each case.

Front lawn / low traffic

Face weight
60–75 oz
Pile height
1.75–2.25"

Taller, softer pile reads lush from the street and rarely gets walked on.

Family back yard

Most common
Face weight
75–90 oz
Pile height
1.375–1.75"

Denser and shorter so it recovers from furniture, kids, and daily traffic.

Dogs / pet areas

Face weight
70–85 oz
Pile height
1.25–1.5"

Maximum-flow backing and zeolite infill matter more here than face weight.

Putting green

Face weight
35–45 oz
Pile height
0.4–0.5"

Short nylon fibre that holds texture under a ball. Speed comes from infill depth.

Playground

Face weight
60–80 oz
Pile height
1.25–1.75"

Soft, non-abrasive face over a shock pad rated to your equipment's fall height.

Commercial / HOA

Face weight
90+ oz
Pile height
1.25–1.625"

Heaviest spec available. Sustained traffic mats down anything lighter.

Higher face weight is denser and recovers better, but it isn't automatically the right answer. A tall, heavy pile in a high-traffic yard still lies over. We bring samples so you can feel the difference before choosing.
