Backyard Putting Greens in Portland, OR

A backyard putting green is the most-used thing we build. Portland's golf season is functionally compressed (courses are wet, slow, and often closed through the winter months), so a green at home turns a six-month practice window into a twelve-month one. Oregon Artificial Turf designs and installs custom putting greens across the Portland metro, from compact single-cup practice greens in a side yard to multi-hole layouts with contoured breaks, fringe collars, and chipping approaches.

Putting surfaces are built to a completely different standard than landscape turf, and the difference is all about roll. We use a short-pile nylon putting surface rather than the polyethylene used in lawns, because nylon holds its texture under a ball and doesn't lay over. The base beneath it is where speed actually comes from: a deeply compacted, finely screeded aggregate profile, laser-checked for the contours you want and rolled until it's genuinely flat where it should be flat. A green built on a sloppy base will never roll true no matter how good the turf is. We finish with a heavy, precisely metered sand infill, the infill rate is the main lever on green speed, and we tune it to the stimp you want.
